This course is intended to prepare you for the EPA 608 exam and to become EPA 608 certified. You must be EPA 608 certified to maintenance, service, or repair an appliance that could be expected within reason to release refrigerants into the atmosphere. This course was developed based on the most current information at the time of publication.
4 types of EPA 608 Certifications:
- Type I: For technicians servicing small appliances
- Type II: For technicians servicing or disposing of high- or very high-pressure appliances, except small appliances and MVACs
- Type III: For technicians servicing or disposing of low-pressure appliances
- Universal: For technicians servicing all types of equipmen

A passing score of 70% is required.
Type I: This is an open-book exam, so you can use your notes.
Type II, III, and Universal (Type I, II and II): These are closed-book exams, and you cannot use notes.

You can retake the test up to 3 times, but there is a 24-hour waiting period after a failed exam.

No, it’s self-paced. Accounts inactive for 90+ days can be reactivated.
No, the course is self-paced, and you can take as much time as you need. However, accounts inactive for more than 90 days will be deactivated. You’ll need to email us to reactivate your account.
No prerequisites are required, but you must have a computer and internet access.
EPA 608 certification does not expire. Once certified, there is no need recertify.
No, a computer or laptop with a webcam is required.
This is an online test taken on your computer while being monitored to ensure fairness and prevent cheating. It allows you to take the exam remotely while maintaining its integrity.
You are allowed 2 hours to complete the test. Most learners finish in less time.
No, the cost of the proctored exam is included in the course fee.
You will see your score immediately after completing the exam. However, the final Pass/Fail status will be determined once a CHEERS employee reviews your proctored exam video. Results and your certificate will be sent to you via email.
Each exam will include 25 multiple-choice questions from each section required for your certification of choice. For example, the Type I exam will include 25 questions from the Core section and 25 questions from the Type I section for a total of 50 questions. The Universal exam will include 25 questions from each of the four sections for a total of 100 questions.
