ENERGY STAR basics
The ENERGY STAR Multifamily New Construction program provides multiple certification pathways for multifamily buildings of all sizes.
Builders looking to qualify multifamily dwelling units through CHEERS can pursue:
- ASHRAE Path – Conduct whole building modeling and testing based on the ASHRAE Standard 90.1. The building model must achieve 15% better than reference. Follow all ENERGY STAR program requirements. Submit workbook and inspection checklists to CHEERS for review.
. - Prescriptive Path – Project follows ENERGY STAR requirements for mechanical, insulation and verification measures for dwellings units and common spaces. Submit workbook and inspection checklists to CHEERS for review.
Federal tax credits are available for ENERGY STAR and Zero Energy Ready Home certification
