Want to be a CHEERS Certified Rater?

 

Being a CHEERS® Certified Rater is more than simply having a job. It's a profession. And CHEERS® certification marks you as a first-rate professional. As such you can count on receiving first-rate support in the form of training, documentation, sales support material and innovative new technology that enables you to build and maintain a profitable business. In short, from the start CHEERS® provides you with the tools to become certified, support through the process and supports your efforts in selling your valuable services.

CHEERS has a number of Certifications that you may apply for.

CHEERS® Certified New Construction Rater - This certification allows you to perform verifications of new homes. This classification level pertains to two specific areas within the new home market. The first, are homes that need verification for Title-24 compliance. The second, are homes needing EPA Energy Star verifications. To be certified under this category the individual must attend, and pass, a 3-day training class. In addition, the individual must sign a Rater Agreement which stipulates the strict business and professional codes of ethics to which they will adhere.

CHEERS® Existing Housing Rater - As a CHEERS® Existing Housing Rater, you will collect data on existing homes and enter it into CHEERS® proprietary software to attain the energy ratings for these homes. You will be provided with a copy of the software, and is taught how to use it during one day of the 4-day training class required for this certification.

CHEERS® Energy Analyst - This classification level is for Title-24 Consultants that work with builders on the construction of EPA Energy Star Homes. Individuals in this category utilize Micropas Title-24 software.

Prerequisites:

  • Related Experience
  • Independent contractors; Title 24 consultants; energy auditors, real estate inspectors, appraisers, insulation, weatherization and HVAC contractors are all encouraged to apply to become CHEERS® Raters.
  • Certified Training Program & Exam
  • Every CHEERS® Rater attends a training program that provides technical instruction on the CHEERS® rating procedures, background on residential construction, home heating and cooling equipment. Successful completion of certification exam is required.
  • Computer Access and Skills
  • Raters must also have access to a PC-compatible computer to run CHEERS' specially developed home-rating software tool
  • Code of Ethics

Additionally, CHEERS® Raters must agree to the nonprofit organization's strict code of ethics and quality assurance standards.

Getting Started
